Good Evening Computech Tiger Families, This is Principal Berrett with your weekly message as we enter week 20 of the school year. This week we begin on Monday with advisory class scheduled from 9-9:30am. Students can see their advisory teacher on their schedule in ATLAS. Students will join their advisory class in Microsoft Teams, where attendance will be taken and teachers will be connecting with our students. Advisory is a time to build connections and develop social emotional learning skills. It is important that all students join their advisory lesson, as that is our attendance taking course for the day. The rest of Monday for students will be spent doing asynchronous learning. This is independent work that is assigned for each class. Teachers have assigned 30 minutes of work per class. These are expected to be completed independently, and are part of our instructional minutes for the week. As a reminder, you can find our teacher’s weekly agendas by going to www.computechstudents.com and then clicking on the Staff page, and then looking for your teachers, and clicking on “Agenda and Syllabus” under each teacher’s name. There is a brief video on our website under “For Families” and “Tips for Families,” and you may call our office if you need assistance. On Tuesday, January 26th, students will attend odd period classes, 1, 3, 5, and 7. They will be attending even period classes on Wednesday, odd classes on Thursday, and even classes on Friday. Our 7th grade students began taking the second iReady diagnostic in Math and English. This helps us to monitor learning progress and plan for future instruction. We ask that students give a good effort to complete these in a timely manner, as are now assigned to work on the diagnostic independently. Letters are being sent home this week to students that earned academic recognition during the first semester. We are proud of your efforts, Tigers, and encourage you to continue to pursue excellence. We also have letters that will be sent home with resources for students that struggled during the first semester. This week is Kindness week. We invite all students to share a kind thought to our kindness board at the following link: http://bit.ly/KindTigers. Students can also add to our kindness collage at: http://bit.ly/ComputechTigerSpirit. We have a goal of 500 kindness posts this week, but I think we could reach 1,000. Families, Fresno Unified is holding meetings for our Local Control and Accountability Plan, in which you have an opportunity to share input on how budgets are allocated. Edison region’s LCAP meeting is on February 2nd at 6pm. Please see the attached flyer (also listed below this message), or visit fresnounified.org for more information. Tutor.com is still available through Clever and our ASES After School Program is available through Teams each day between 2:45 and 5:30pm Our Tiger Pantry is available to students that have needs, including clothing, hygiene items, and school supplies. That is found on our school website under “For Students.” To check out books from our Library, students can go to the Library tab on our website, or call or text our librarian, Mrs. Ward, at 559-549-3758. Our main office is open between 8am and 4pm Monday through Friday. If you are in need of support, you can call us at 457-2640. In the event that you need to visit our office, you are able to park in our new visitor parking lot off Belgravia, directly in front of the office. Please make sure that you conduct a self-health screener prior to coming to campus, and it is helpful if you would call ahead to let us know you are coming. Our quote of the week from Mahatma Gandhi, “Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.” Our school and teachers work to teach students to think critically and creatively. There is power and potential in diverse thinking that comes from different experiences and understanding. We improve together when we are able to share the best of those ideas with one another. Keep learning, wondering, and sharing ideas. Have a great week Tigers!

Good Evening Computech Tiger Families,
This is Principal Berrett. I hope you have all enjoyed your 3-day weekend in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a powerful force for good in promoting equity, kindness, and love for another. We would do well to look for ways to improve the world by promoting these values. As we strive to prepare our students for their future, it is very important that students attend every class and actively participate in their learning. Students, please begin this semester the right way by attending meetings, asking questions, turning in assignments, and when you are able, by unmuting and speaking, and interacting with your teachers and peers in productive ways. Families, please encourage your students to be focused on their learning during the school day, and ask them to check ATLAS for grades and assignments that they are completing to demonstrate their learning. We must work together to be successful, especially over distance learning. In an effort to support our students and families, we have adjusted our staff page at www.computechstudents.com. This is where families are now able to click on a teacher’s agenda and syllabus link below their picture to view that teacher’s contact information, syllabus, weekly agenda, and office hours. You do not need a password to access this information, as it is public. Please take some time to view the page and view the agendas for the week with your student. There is a brief video on our website under “For Families” and “Tips for Families.” Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 19th, students will attend odd period classes, 1, 3, 5, and 7. They will be attending even period classes on Wednesday, odd classes on Thursday, and even classes on Friday. As a reminder, next Monday, January 25th, will be the first asynchronous work day that students will have. They will be attending their advisory class from 9 to 9:30am that morning. Students can see their advisory teacher on ATLAS and on their schedule for period 0 advisory for that day. There will be reminders about this next week. Our 7th grade students will soon be taking the second iReady diagnostic in Math and English. This helps us to monitor learning progress and plan for future instruction. We ask that students give a good effort to complete these in a timely manner, as some of the diagnostic may be assigned to them to work on independently. Tutor.com is still available through Clever and our ASES After School Program is available through Teams each day between 2:45 and 5:30pm. Our Tiger Pantry is available to students that have needs, including clothing, hygiene items, and school supplies. That is found on our school website under “For Students.” To check out books from our Library, students can go to the Library tab on our website, or call or text our librarian, Mrs. Ward, at 559-549-3758. We encourage students to read regularly, as this helps to improve literacy skills. Our quote of the week from Martin Luther King Jr., “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?” How are we trying to make the world a better place? Who are we serving and how are we helping others in their lives, and improving ourselves in order to be of greater service? Treat one another with kindness and look for opportunities to learn about others and their stories, and then look for ways to serve others. It will bless your lives and the lives of others, and make this world a better place. Have a great week Tigers! Good Evening Computech Tiger Families,
This is Principal Berrett. Our Computech Family hopes that you have all had a wonderful winter break and a happy holiday season, though it may have been different than years past. We are happy to welcome you back to the second semester of the school year, even if it is not how we had hoped to resume. We will begin the second semester with all students over distance learning. As a result of the current Covid-19 case rate and the Governor’s direction, we will not have any cohorts of students on campus while the stay at home order is in place. As was shared prior to the break, our schedules within Fresno Unified have changed, and details of those changes can be found on our website at www.computechstudents.com under General Information and Bells. Mondays we will have advisory meetings for all students from 9-9:30am, and the remainder of the day will be asynchronous independent work for each of your classes. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be odd block schedules and Wednesdays and Fridays will be even block schedules. Our times for our daily schedules have not changed, and will remain the same as the first semester on Tuesday through Friday. This Monday, January 11th, is a staff professional learning day, so there is no school for students. Students will attend odd period classes, 1, 3, 5, and 7 on Tuesday, January 12th. They will be attending even period classes on Wednesday, odd classes on Thursday, and even classes on Friday. As a reminder, next Monday we observe the holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr, so there is no school on that Monday. As we begin this new semester, we encourage students to be engaged, to actively participate in class through use of unmuting and responding online, use of the chat, as well as email. Communication is a critical factor to your success, especially in distance learning. Families, we encourage your partnership with us by checking Atlas for assignments and speaking with your student about their classes, their learning, and their progress. We are in the midst of making adjustments to our staff page on our website to create a more consistent method for viewing weekly agendas and assignments by clicking on each teacher’s image and being able to view their agendas, expectations, and contact information. Be on the lookout for that to be updated during this week. Tutor.com is still available through Clever and our ASES After School Program is available through Teams each day between 2:45 and 5:30pm Our Tiger Pantry remains available to students that have needs, including clothing, hygiene items, and school supplies. That is found on our school website under “For Students.” To check out books from our Library, students can go to the Library tab on our website, or call or text our librarian, Mrs. Ward, at 559-549-3758. In the event that you need to visit our office, you are able to park in our new visitor parking lot off Belgravia, directly in front of the office. Please make sure that you conduct a self-health screener prior to coming to campus, and it is helpful if you would call ahead to let us know you are coming. Our quote of the week from Martin Luther King Jr., “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” With the recent events that have taken place over the last week in society, I would like to remind our Tigers that hate and violence do not solve problems. We can and must be better than what we have seen taking place, and we do so by seeking understanding and knowledge, and by communicating in productive ways. Our school must be a safe place for all of our students and staff. We value all perspectives and voices, and want what is best for all of our Tigers and their families. Though we may have different ideas, we become better when we seek to understand one another and honor and respect one another’s ideas, cultures, beliefs, and perspectives. Have a great week, and welcome back Tigers! Good Evening Computech Tiger Families,

Please note, there will be a 3 hour time period where designated student cohorts are able to come in person on Mondays between 9:30am and 12:30pm. We will be hosting a Teams Live Meeting this coming Wednesday evening from 6:30-7pm to answer any questions that individuals may have about the schedule for next semester. You can join that meeting by clicking on the following link: https://tinyurl.com/y2ul74ow Your quote of the week from Chinese Philosopher, Lao Tzu , "Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love." During this holiday season, regardless of what your traditions, celebrations, or beliefs, we encourage everyone to give the gift of kindness to others. Kindness costs nothing, but is of infinite value. Have a great week, work hard to finish strong, and we hope that you all have a wonderful winter break following this week. Good Evening Computech Tiger Families, This is Principal Berrett. I hope this message finds you and your families well, and with the current stay at home orders beginning tonight at midnight, please do what you can to keep yourselves and others safe and healthy. I would like to share that this order does not change anything about our current distance learning, or our current small cohort of students on campus. However, it is critical that before coming to campus for any reason, all individuals complete the self-health screener , and if they answer yes to any of the questions, they cannot be on our campus. Next week is the end of the semester as we enter week 16. This week we will begin on Monday with even block schedule. Students will be attending periods 2, 4, 6, and 8 tomorrow, and then attending odd block periods on Tuesday. Students, please communicate with your teachers this week to make sure you know what you need to do to be successful as we finish this semester strong. Those schedules are posted on Fresno Unified’s website. We recently were provided with our specialty school schedule and it is attached to this communication . The class schedule will remain the same Tuesday through Friday each day, with odd periods taking place on Tuesdays and Thursday, and even schedules on Wednesday and Friday. Our Monday schedule will begin for students at 9am with advisory class for 30 minutes online. Following advisory, students will be working on asynchronous assignments independently. When Covid safety protocols allow, there will be a 3 hour time period where designated student cohorts are able to come in person on Mondays between 9:30am and 12:30pm. Those cohorts cannot begin until we are at least in red tier as a county. We will begin the second semester in distance learning. You can expect more detail about the schedule later this week in a separate communication. Your quote of the week from Albert Einstein , "Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value." As we learn more, we increase in our capacity to serve, and our ability to make a positive impact on the world. Tigers, keep striving to be the best you. We care about you and our goal is to help you to reach your potential, but we need your best efforts to achieve great things, individually and as a community. Keep learning and growing and let’s finish this semester strong. Have a great week! Good Evening Computech Tiger Families, This is Principal Berrett. I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and were able to enjoy time with loved ones, even if it was over the phone or internet. Your quote of the week from Princess Diana, “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” This holiday season, may we show gratitude for the good people and things in our lives, and then look to improve the lives of others by giving of what we have. It does not have to be material things, it could be an encouraging letter or email to someone, a wave to someone as they pass by, a compliment, or an act of service. Tigers, let’s look for ways to perform acts of kindness. Have a great week! Your quote of the week from Oprah Winfrey, “If you look at what you have in life, you’ll always have more. If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough.” As we move closer to Thanksgiving, I hope all of us will consider what we have to be grateful for, and then share with others. In the words of William Arthur Ward, “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” In that spirit, we invite our staff and students to participate in our “What are you Thankful For?” selfie activity. That allows us to provide them an invitation through Teams each day between 2:45 and 5:30pm. Students can utilize it at their convenience. The program is free and open to all students. Students are able to check out books from the Library. There is a tutorial on the Library page of computechstudents.com demonstrating how to request books. Students can pick up books Monday through Friday from 8am-3:45pm. If you have questions, you can call or text our librarian, Mrs. Ward, at 559-549-3758. Mr. Brown continues with our Tiger Lunchtime Lounge. You can join the fun by going into Teams, clicking on “Join or Create Teams”, and entering the code, zx8uc04. This week, a Halloween Costume Challenge Channel has been added, where students are able to post a costume picture for a chance to win pizza prizes. With regard to Halloween, students are able to dress up in attending classes on Friday, following Fresno Unified School District Standards of Dress, meaning that these costumes must not promote violence, drugs, alcohol, or involve weapons. We encourage students to participate in dressing up Friday, October 30th. Parents and students, we recognize that there are both challenges and opportunities associated with distance learning. One of the most important keys to success during distance learning is for students to be active participants. This includes unmuting and responding to teachers and peers, participating in class and small group discussions, utilizing the chat appropriately to communicate, and reaching out to teachers via Teams or email when needed. It becomes much more challenging for students that are not active in their learning, as it becomes difficult at times to know if students are truly present when cameras are off and there is no communication through voice, chat, or email. Please encourage your student to be actively communicating with teachers, that is currently the most critical indicator for students’ success. Our office remains open between 8am and 4pm. If you are in need of support, you can call us at 457-2640. Your quote of the week American author, coach, motivational speaker, and philanthropist, Tony Robbins, “Remember that you are in charge of your life. You can do anything that you set your mind to. Get in the right frame of mind, set some goals and attack the week. Be proactive and take charge and remember that you are awesome.” Have a Great Week and Go Tigers! |
