Week 9: 10-11-20

Good Evening Computech Tiger Families,

This is Principal Berrett, with your weekly update as we enter week 9 of the school year.  You can find this communication on www.computechstudents.com under the “Announcements” tab. This week we will begin on Monday with even block schedule. Students will be attending periods 2, 4, 6, and 8 tomorrow, and then attending odd block periods on Tuesday.

The first quarter ended last Friday, October 9th. Unfortunately, the district grading system, ATLAS, went down last Friday.  District will be sending out first quarter report cards via email and those should be expected to come out at the end of this week.

This week we begin with a very small cohort of some of our students. To be clear, the goal with this first small cohort is to ensure they have a safe and reliable place to access internet and meals. They are continuing with distance learning-- this is not in-person instruction. We will reach out to families directly should your student be in one of our future designated cohorts.

This coming week, Counselor Ortiz will be presenting on School of Choice and High School Pathways.   All 8th grade students are expected to attend one of the two sessions.  One will be on Tuesday October 13th at 2:20 and another will be on Wednesday October 14th at 2:20.  The presentation will take place on Teams.  All 8th grade students were sent a meeting invitation this past Thursday.

We are now able to check out books from the Library. There is a tutorial on the Library page of computechstudents.com demonstrating how to request books. Students can pick up books Monday through Friday from 8am-3:45pm. If you have questions, you can call or text our librarian, Mrs. Ward, at 559-549-3758.

If you want your student to have access to the ASES After School Program, please go to the link on the Computech website under the After School tab and fill out the enrollment survey. That allows us to provide them an invitation through Teams each day between 2:45 and 5:30pm. Students can utilize it at their convenience. The program is free and open to all students.

Mr. Brown continues with our Tiger Lunchtime Lounge. You can join the fun by going into Teams, clicking on “Join or Create Teams”, and entering the code, zx8uc04.

Our office remains open between 8am and 4pm. If you are in need of support, you can call us at 457-2640. Our Librarian, Mrs. Ward, has been very helpful with technology and device distribution and you can contact her during the school day on her Google line at 549-3758.

Your quote of the week from Mahatma Gandhi, “Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.”  We value innovation, and different perspectives lead to better ideas, and greater accomplishments, when we learn to work together.  Our diversity allows us to learn from one another and become better.  It is important that all of you know that you are valued and appreciated, and we expect our Tigers to help one another to be the best we can be, including students, staff, and families.  Look to lift one another, and in so doing, you will also reach new heights.  Have a Great Week and Go Tigers!

Good Evening Computech Tiger Families,

This is Principal Berrett, with your weekly update as we enter week 8 of the school year.  You can find this communication on www.computechstudents.com under the “Announcements” tab. This week we will begin on Monday with odd block schedule. Students will be attending periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 tomorrow, and then attending even block periods on Tuesday.

The first quarter ends this Friday, October 9th. If students or parents have questions, we encourage you to reach out to teachers via email, or setup a virtual meeting during teacher office hours. As class time is precious, we respectfully ask parents to setup times during office hours with teachers and not interrupt class time for students. You can email teachers directly from ATLAS by clicking on the teacher’s name in the Summary page where it lists students’ classes. Please communicate with your teachers early in the week regarding your grades.

This last Friday we had a Club Rush event online for students to find out about clubs that are currently meeting, and to take a survey about clubs we may offer moving forward.  You can see that presentation and submit a survey at the end of the presentation by clicking on the link here: Club Rush Presentation  We encourage students to get involved.

Mr. Brown continues with our Tiger Lunchtime Lounge. You can join the fun by going into Teams, clicking on “Join or Create Teams”, and entering the code, zx8uc04. This week we have Bingo.  The student with the most wins at the end of the week will have a pizza sent to their house.

Our School Site Council has their first meeting this coming Wednesday, October 7th at 6pm.  This meeting is held virtually.  The agenda for the School Site Council Meeting is attached here.  If you would like to attend the meeting, please email Mr. Berrett at Bradley.Berrett@fresnounified.org to receive a link to the meeting.

This last Friday, Fresno Unified Superintendent Bob Nelson shared that the district is taking a methodical, phased in approach of returning students to campus.  Due to physical distancing requirements of 6 feet, we are not able to bring ALL students back at this time. For the remainder of the first semester, the district will be focused on phasing in small, stable cohorts of some of our highest-need students including foster and homeless youth, students with disabilities and our English language newcomers. To be clear, the goal with this first small cohort is to ensure they have a safe and reliable place to access internet and meals. They are continuing with distance learning-- this is not in-person instruction. As our superintendent shared, these targeted cohorts will start VERY small.  When Fresno Unified has the green light from our health experts and agreement with our labor partners, the district will bring back additional small groups of targeted, high-need students. We will reach out to families directly should your student be in one of our future designated cohorts. To hear Superintendent Nelson’s full video message, parents can visit www.fresnounified.org or one of the district’s social media platforms.

Our office remains open between 8am and 4pm at 457-2640 if you are in need of support, or if you need a device, you can reach out to our site. Our Librarian, Mrs. Ward, has been very helpful with technology and device distribution and you can contact her during the school day on her Google line at 549-3758.

Your quote of the week from an unknown author, “Train your mind to see the good in the everything.  Positivity is a choice.  The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.”  Recognize good things in the world, and when you see them, share them with others. Have a Great Week and Go Tigers!

Good Evening Computech Tiger Families,

This is Principal Berrett, with your weekly update as we enter in our 6th week of the school year.  This week we will begin on Monday with odd block schedule.  Students will be attending periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 tomorrow, and then attending even block periods on Tuesday.

Progress reports were sent out from district office through email last week.  This is not a final grade, but a progress check.  If you have questions, we encourage you to reach out to teachers via email, or setup a virtual meeting during teacher office hours.  You can email teachers directly from ATLAS by clicking on the teacher’s name in the Summary page where it lists students’ classes.

Ms. Lewis is continuing to reach out to students who have not completed their iReady diagnostic.  A reminder that these diagnostics in Math and English Language Arts help to inform our teaching practice and we encourage students to finish up strong this week.
Mr. Brown continues with our Tiger Lunchtime Lounge during lunch each day for students that would like to connect and chat together.  You can join the conversation by going into Teams, and on the page where all of your classes are located, in the top right corner click on “Join or Create Teams”, then enter the code, zx8uc04.

If you want your student to have access to the ASES After School Program, please go to the link on the Computech website under the After School tab and fill out the enrollment survey. That gives us permission to put your student into a specific Team based on their grade level so they will be getting help with their classmates.  Students will receive an invitation through Teams each day between 2:45 and 5:30pm each day.  Students can utilize it at their convenience.  The program is free and open to all students.

Students will follow the same classroom protocols after school as they do in their regular classes. The Fresno Unified monitoring system, Gaggle, monitors student technology after school as well as during the school day, including what is downloaded onto devices, items that are shared through chat, posting, emails, and live meetings.  Student activity MUST be appropriate during the After School Program; we will remove a student from the After School program for inappropriate activity. All our tutoring sessions are recorded.

Our Tiger Pantry is available to help with needed resources and supplies for our students.  Navigate to our website and point at “For Students” and then click on the Tiger Pantry to make requests.

Our office remains open between 8am and 4pm at 457-2640 if you are in need of support, or if you need a device, you can reach out to our site.  Our Librarian, Mrs. Ward, has been very helpful with technology and device distribution and you can contact her during the school day on her Google line at 549-3758.

Finally, as we enter into election time, and with many differing ideas and opinions, I would like to remind our students and families of the importance of being understanding of different perspectives.  Now perhaps more than ever we need to be thoughtful, kind, and respectful toward others, and even toward ourselves.  Please treat others with kindness and respect even, and especially when you might not agree with them.

Your quote of the week from basketball great, Michael Jordan, “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.”  Failure is a part of learning and growth, as long as we choose to reflect and improve.  We are all learning an online school environment right now.  As your progress reports just came out, it is a time for reflection and growth.  Please reach out to your teachers and give your best effort, knowing we are here to help, and our teachers and support staff are committed to our students success in learning and life.    Have a Great Week and Go Tigers!

Good Evening Computech Tiger Families,

This is Principal Berrett, with your weekly update as we enter week 7 of the school year.  This week we will begin on Monday with even block schedule.  Students will be attending periods 2, 4, 6, and 8 tomorrow, and then attending odd block periods on Tuesday.

Progress reports were delayed, but should have been sent out from district office through email last week. This is not a final grade, but a progress check. If you have questions, we encourage you to reach out to teachers via email, or setup a virtual meeting during teacher office hours. You can email teachers directly from ATLAS by clicking on the teacher’s name in the Summary page where it lists students’ classes. So that you are aware, the first quarter ends on Friday, October 9th.

A reminder for our students still working to complete their iReady diagnostic #1. The deadline is September 30, 2020. Ms. Lewis has been reaching out to students that still need to complete their diagnostics.

Please be sure that all activity on computers is appropriate, following our district technology acceptable use policy. One particular area to be aware of is images that show in student’s profiles, that even when changed, may take an indefinite amount of time to reset. Please make sure that images, words, and all communications are school appropriate at all times.

Mr. Brown continues with our Tiger Lunchtime Lounge. You can join the conversation by going into Teams, clicking on “Join or Create Teams”, and entering the code, zx8uc04.
Our Tiger Pantry is available to help with needed resources and supplies for our students. Navigate to our website and point at “For Students” and then click on the Tiger Pantry to make requests.

Our Librarian, Mrs. Ward, has been very helpful with technology and device distribution and you can contact her during the school day on her Google line at 549-3758.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, your quote of the week from American Labor Leader, Dolores Huerta, “We must use our lives to make the world a better place to live, not just to acquire things. That is what we are put on the earth for.” What can you do each day to make the world a little better? Who can you lift up? What can you help to improve? We all have talents that can improve the world, use them for good. Tigers, let’s find a way to make someone smile each day this week. Have a Great Week and Go Tigers!
